The Second Life of Blogging

I mentioned restarting my blog to another entrepreneur last week. She said, “Blogging? What is this 2002?”

Her response was telling as it relates to how people think about blogging and its usefulness in 2020. Indeed, there are thousands of blog posts, articles, and videos on YouTube wondering if blogging is dead.

I’m here to tell you it isn’t and statistics from HubSpot support this:

The usefulness of blogs hasn’t changed. What has changed it the addition of audio and video content.

Many content creators use blog posts to accompany podcast episodes or YouTube videos. This gives the target audience or reader the opportunity to consume the content in the manner which works best for them. You can see an example of this over at the site Side Hustle Nation by Nick Loper. He uses his blogs to accompany his podcasts episodes and are great for search engine optimization and those who don't have the time to listen to the complete episode.

And since the creator is simply repurposing the content onto another platform, they don’t have to create separate pieces of content for each platform.

That’s a win for everyone.

But even if your blog is text only, the value in the blog is being able to use that post to solve a problem your target audience has. When people search the Internet, they are looking to solve a problem. You want your blog to be the piece of content which solves that problem.

And while tactics like keywords and search engine optimization (SEO) will help you rank on Google. The most important factor is that your blog answers their questions and solves their problem.

Having an updated and optimized blog on your company’s website will increase brand awareness and expertise helping to drive sales.

Is blogging dead in 2020? Not by a long shot. But your content has to be meaningful, targeted, and be able to solve a problem. That is how blogging has earned a second life on the Internet.
